It has been mined for centuries from the underground deposits of local mines. It has been used since antiquity by the inhabitants of North Africa and some regions of the Middle East for cosmetic purposes. This clay is called Ghassoul or Rassoul, which comes from the Arabic verb Rassala which means to wash.

This clay has been used by Arab women for centuries for skin and hair care, because it contains the unique wealth of magnesium, silicon and calcium, and has extraordinary detoxifying, oxygenating, soothing and smoothing properties.
